FAQs
Below is information on things you need to know before, during and after the Shrewsbury Half Marathon. It is updated regularly, so keep checking it for up to date info.
We took over the running of Shrewsbury Half Marathon in 2016 and are looking forward to building on the hard work of the last four years by welcoming friends, old and new, to take part in the 2020 event. For 2020 we are delighted to confirm the race date of the 11th October 2020 the same, much-loved course combining a beautiful mix of history and scenery.
The course begins and ends at the Shropshire County Show ground. The 53-acre ground lends itself to all sorts of events, and with ample parking, toilets and extensive camping facilities, the showground has the capacity to cater for all.
The race takes you along the river in the beautiful Quarry, home of the Shrewsbury Flower Show, then through the historic town centre before heading out over the English bridge to run a loop in the Kingsland estate.
After you ‘conquer the Wyle Cop’ you then head out to run the second half of the race in the Shropshire countryside, before finishing back in the showground where you will pick up your medal, tech t-shirt, treat bag, banana and drink.

There are several car parks in the Town Centre which are within a 10-15 minute walk of the Showground. They all charge for parking on a Sunday, and amounts vary dependent on which car park.
The Frankwell Car Park is within a 15 minute walk of the Showground and costs just £1 all day on a Sunday.
Toilets
There are 68 toilets on the showground, spread out over the 53-acre site. The toilets near the start line get very busy, so as part of your warm up we recommend you jog across to one of the nearby toilets if you want to avoid the queues. They will be well sign posted on the day.
Toilets on the route are open at the start of Victoria Avenue 1.5 miles in and at Butcher Row which will be signed just off the route at the 6 mile marker.

Race Bib
The Shrewsbury Half Marathon use a bibtag system, which is attached to your bib number. Please make sure your bib number is pinned to the front of your vest/t-shirt. Your timing chip will activate as you cross the start line.
You must fill in the medical information on the rear of your bib before you arrive at the event. This is essential for your safety because it will be used in an emergency.
You must wear your bib number. If you don’t two things happen. If a Marshall or Race official sees you running with no bib on you will be asked to leave the route immediately. If you do not wear your bib and run you will not get a time registered. If you lose your bib that arrives via post pre-event, then there will be a small number available at registration.

We know you have just ran a Half Marathon and will likely be feeling tired but we will ask you to keep moving, pick up your finishers items and proceed out of the funnel. We ask you to do this because there will be a large number of runners coming in just behind you.
Pulling Out Of The Race
